Chad Braverman Interviewed on the Drive Home with Jillian Barberie and John Phillips
Doc Johnson COO/CCO Chad Braverman appeared as a guest on The Drive Home with Jillian Barberie and John Phillips on 790 KABC April 4, just on the heels of an LA Weekly photo essay and full-length article putting the company in the spotlight.
On the air, Braverman discussed life as the successor to a sex toy empire, the company's long-standing practice of local manufacturing, and being the first in the industry to mold adult stars for toys (a topic that elicited the first of many rounds of applause from the hosts) with Phillips and local legend Barberie. "That was first done by Doc Johnson about 35 years ago," revealed Braverman. "It was John Holmes."
On Doc Johnson's commitment to keeping the bulk of its product manufacturing in the U.S., Braverman said "My dad [company founder Ron Braverman] knew that he could have made more profit with this company by going to China, but when you start something, you see what it means to wake up every morning and open up your doors to over 350 employees. We're lucky in regards to what business we are in." He continued "We've been able to weather a lot of storms, and it's something we've taken a lot of pride in."
Doc Johnson, America's biggest manufacturer of adult novelties, celebrates its 40th anniversary in business this year, and currently employs a staff of 500 at the company's 215,000 square-foot campus in North Hollywood, California.
"It's wonderful to be recognized by the local media as a company that's making positive contributions to the greater Los Angeles community and leading others by example," Braverman said of the interview. "When topics like job creation or buying American come up, not many people would immediately think of this industry, but for the past 40 years Doc Johnson has remained committed to manufacturing the vast majority of our products right here in California."
